Practical Climber Rescue Skills for Real Situations
Our rescue for climbers course teaches the self-rescue skills every climbing team should have: escaping the system, hoisting and assisted rescues, abseil problem solving and making good decisions when something goes wrong.
It’s designed for trad, sport and multi-pitch climbers, and fits well alongside our learn to lead and multi-pitch climbing courses. Courses run in the Lake District and North Wales.

Why Take a Climber Rescue Course?
Most climbers spend time developing movement skills and lead climbing techniques but rarely practise what happens when things go wrong.
Understanding rescue principles helps improve overall climbing competence, rope management and confidence. Even if you never need to use these skills in a genuine emergency, learning rescue systems will deepen your understanding of climbing and make you a more capable partner.
The course focuses on practical, realistic solutions rather than complex techniques that are unlikely to be used in real-world situations.
Skills You'll Develop
Escaping the System: Learn how to safely transfer loads, escape the belay and create stable systems when circumstances require you to step away from your normal role as belayer.
Hoisting & Assisted Rescue Techniques: Develop an understanding of simple hauling systems and practical methods for assisting a climber who is unable to continue without support.
Abseil & Rope Problem Solving: Learn techniques for managing common rope issues, stuck ropes and abseil-related challenges that may arise during outdoor climbing.
Emergency Ropework Skills Build confidence using rope systems to manage incidents, maintain safety and improve your overall understanding of climbing rescue techniques.
Incident Management & Decision Making: Develop the judgement to assess situations, prioritise actions and make sound decisions under pressure while maintaining a calm and systematic approach.
